Product use and safety information

Please read this page before giving any Carevia Pets product to your dog.

Last updated: March 18, 2025

1. Intended use

Carevia Pets products are intended for dogs only and are not for human consumption. They are not drugs, and they are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition. They do not replace veterinary care.

2. Speak to your veterinarian first

Consult your veterinarian before use if your dog:

  • is a puppy, is pregnant or is nursing;
  • is elderly or has a medical condition, including kidney, liver, heart or digestive disease;
  • has a known allergy or sensitivity to any ingredient;
  • takes prescription medicines or other supplements;
  • has surgery or a medical procedure planned.

3. Follow the label

Read the product label and follow its directions. Pack size is a purchasing unit, not a feeding amount. Do not exceed the directed amount, and introduce any new product gradually unless the label says otherwise.

4. If your dog reacts badly

Stop giving the product and contact your veterinarian if your dog shows vomiting, diarrhea, unusual tiredness, itching or any other change that worries you. Seek emergency veterinary care at once if you see swelling of the face, hives, collapse or difficulty breathing. After your dog has been seen, please tell us the product, pack size and what happened so that we can record it.

For suspected poisoning or overdose, contact a veterinarian or a pet poison helpline immediately. In the United States, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) and the Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661) operate around the clock, and consultation fees may apply.

5. Storage and safety

Store products as directed on the label, tightly closed and out of reach of children and other animals. Keep the original packaging so that you can refer to the label and batch information.

6. About the information on this website

Our research pages summarise published studies about dog health in general and are not studies of Carevia Pets products. Results seen in a study may not occur in your dog, and individual dogs differ. We do not claim that any product will treat a condition.

7. Regulatory status

Supplements for dogs are regulated in the United States as animal food by the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine, in cooperation with state agencies. The human dietary supplement law does not apply to animal products. See our regulation summary for details.
